Hidden Bays of the Adriatic: My 5 Favorite Anchorages
Quiet corners of the Croatian coast where the sea and silence meet.
There’s a magic in Croatia’s coastline that only sailors truly know.
It’s not in the famous ports or busy marinas — it’s in the quiet corners, the hidden bays where time slows down and the sea feels like it belongs only to you.
These are five places where I always find peace — where the sound of the wind replaces everything else.
🌿 1. Krknjaši (Blue Lagoon, Drvenik Veli)
Just a few miles from Split, this place still surprises me every time.
Turquoise water, soft sand below, and a simple konoba on the shore.
Early morning, before the day boats arrive, Krknjaši feels like another world — one made of light and stillness.
🌅 2. Šćedro Island
Tucked between Hvar and Korčula, Šćedro is the kind of island that whispers instead of shouts.
There are no cars, only pine trees and the smell of rosemary in the air.
In Mostir Bay, you can anchor close to an old monastery and swim in water so clear you see the shadow of your boat on the sand.
🌾 3. Stiniva Bay, Vis
You sail between tall cliffs, and suddenly the sea opens into a hidden cove — like a secret kept by the island.
Stiniva is small and dramatic, best visited early or late in the day when the light paints the rocks gold.
🐚 4. Piskera, Kornati National Park
Piskera is a dream for those who love silence.
No cities, no shops, only the wind brushing the dry stone.
Anchoring here under the stars makes you feel part of something ancient — a reminder of how wild and pure the Adriatic can be.
🌄 5. Proizd (near Korčula)
A white island surrounded by impossible shades of blue.
Proizd is famous for its clear water, but if you stay past sunset, you’ll understand why locals call it “the island of colors.”
It’s one of those anchorages that stays with you long after you leave.
Every sailor has their own secret map — a collection of places that calm the noise inside.
These are mine.
And each one reminds me that the Adriatic isn’t just a sea — it’s a way of life.
